- A strong relationship with the field that was based on mutual respect for what we each had to offer in getting better outcomes for our children and youth.
- A focus on the full range of capacities that OJJDP had to offer the field, supported by a strong staff: funding support; demonstration and testing of new ideas focused on areas of importance to the field; research and evaluation; data; training; and knowledge dissemination.
- Establishing OJJDP as a significant voice in the presidential administration’s work to support localities, states and tribes in addressing juvenile delinquency and child victimization.
- Creating an overarching theme to the work of OJJDP through its Comprehensive Strategy and a focus on multi-systems approaches to addressing juvenile delinquency.
- Bringing to life OJJDP’s focus on child victimization and tribal youth, two long-neglected areas.
