    I had the priviledge of being a project member of a team of state and university researchers that produced a DMC report on our state. We also had the experience of facing reluctance by the state’s political leadership to accept our recommendations. The other half of this 800 lb gorilla in the kitchen is low family income and being recipients of public assistance. On reflection, I’d have to say that our efforts to focus attention on income disparities rather than race have been more successful in regards to achieving program and service changes.
